These disposable Health Care Surgical Masks are made locally here in Canada. They are as non-medical grade. They are designed for personal use, 3-ply surgical mask.
Our health care professionals have been working with local manufacturers who have brought in equipment to start making Canadian made masks. Their first batch have come of the line and have been sold to us as non medical grade. They have been classified as non medical at this time as they are still being tested to receive their medical designation. The manufacturer hopes the masks will receive a level 1 or 2 rating in the next few months.
The blue side is designed to be worn on the outside, the white on the inside. The metal bar goes around the nose.
Surgical masks are not intended to be used more than once. If your mask is damaged or soiled or if breathing through the mask becomes difficult, you should remove the face mask, discard it safely, and replace it with a new one. To safely discard your mask, place it in a plastic bag and put it in the trash. Wash your hands after handling the used mask.
Directions on How to Use
- Place mask against your face (white on the inside, blue on the outside) with the nose piece at the top; Extend the loops behind your ears.
- Pull the mask over your nose and pinch the nose piece to adjust it for a tight fit.
- Open the pleats and extend the mask to your chin.
- Discard the mask after use. Do not reuse.
How Do These Medical Masks Work?
According to the CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) medical masks limit the spread of infectious particles such as COVID-19 expelled by the user. They are used to help protect the area around the user from contamination by particles expelled by the user, such as those generated by coughs or sneezes. Medical masks also help provide a physical barrier to protect the user from splashes, sprays, droplets in the air, or contact with contaminated hands.
CDC and Health Canada Recommends Wearing Face Masks!
The CDC and Health Canada has now recommended people should be wearing face masks in public. We now know from recent studies that a significant portion of individuals with coronavirus lack symptoms (“asymptomatic”) and that even those who eventually develop symptoms (“pre-symptomatic”) can transmit the virus to others before showing symptoms. This means that the virus can spread between people interacting in close proximity—for example, speaking, coughing, or sneezing—even if those people are not exhibiting symptoms. In light of this new evidence, it is recommended the individuals wear face coverings in public settings where other social distancing measures are difficult to maintain (e.g., grocery stores and pharmacies) especially in areas of significant community-based transmission.
