Bunion Splints and Supports A bunion is a painful bony bump that develops on the inside of the foot at the big toe joint. Bunions is often referred to as hallux valgus. Bunions develop slowly, often being caused by arthritis of the metatarsophalangeal or MTP joint. The deformity of the big toe joint causes the big toe to lean toward the second toe.
Bunion splints and supports are typically a device that is typically worn at night (while sleeping) that physically pushes the big toe back into normal alignment. There are several variations, some more rigid than others and a there are a variety of designs. There are some that push the big toe over while other pull the big toe over.
